Obesity Wars: ‘Paleo’ the bottom up Revolution

freedom-is-in-peril-defend-it-with-all-your-mightSome mornings I wake up I could be almost overwhelmed by the challenges ahead. The sheer scale of what we are up against (changing the mindset that 60 years of government and corporate propaganda have done, to reverse global policy on food provision and nutrition) awes me in the brief moment I feel it can’t be done. But then I remind myself of what it’s all about, together with Mike we believe fundamentally that Paleo works absolutely and the enormous changes it brings to every area of my our life and having not had this and then having this and by “this” I mean a profound sense of wellbeing and fitness, strength and delight it would be neither fair nor right not to spend every day telling you it is possible and that it is there for you for the taking.

We are absolutely passionate about this cause, we have the drive and energy to change what people eat, by changing the conventional wisdom around diet and weight loss.

We eat well. We eat a varied diet. We have seven children between us. We work. We wrestle with money. Today we struggle with a broken boiler and no heat. It’s everyday stuff but somehow it’s different. We respond to situations as and when they arise but somehow without the drama and by that I mean the shouting, the blame, the fear, the stress all the negatives which came from a negative diet: eating food that contributed nothing but negatives punctuated by the momentary salve of a quick hit of sugar. For every up there was a down and that hit quickly. We lived life like that for years and now we don’t.

And so I am here writing to you and telling you it is possible. It might be like throwing a pebble in the ocean but I will keep doing it because for those of you who are listening and who take the time to investigate these first principles, life will never be the same again.

Actually No, life has always been this way, it just got derailed by industry and the drive for profit…

The Future’s Bright

Paleo-chinese-lanternTalking to a friend this afternoon I noted her pessimism as the weather starts to turn. Here in the UK we are divided over the use of British Summertime and are waiting for the clocks to turn back at the end of October. This brings with it dark mornings oh and dark evenings so those of us at work don’t see much sunlight….and it rains …. a lot !
I like the changing seasons and I like the sentiment behind Christmas (if not religious) that brings with it a festival of light in the darkest of dark months. But for my friend, now begins a time of fear and trepidation characterised by the pull to bread and cakes, sticky puddings and custard and the subsequent ‘battle of the bulge‘.

Well that’s one way but I would say it’s not the only way. Yes the weather is turning, the seasons changing and the dark nights are drawing in. There’s a lot to celebrate too. Hallowe’en, Bonfire Night and we are definitely partying on that night this year, proper bonfire proper fireworks, proper fun…Christmas, New Year and New Life. Celebrate with us.Bonfire-sparklerWe will share with you our approach to the autumnal/winter months. We hope this will see you through.

This way of life is based on the only diet that we human beings are genetically adapted to live. It is not a fad diet. It has a history reaching back over two million years and is tried and tested through evolution and natural selection. So for now, I will simply say to you what I said to my friend, don’t succumb to crazy food just because the weather’s colder.

Adapt your diet , keep it simple, keep it real!
