Sustained Change can be Hard

It’s doubly hard if you have made a break from the life you were living and have been successfully living something new.  Like weight loss. Like Paleo.  You may well find that your success meets with resistance.

When you succeed, your success can become an uncomfortable reminder of that “unlived life” to others.

What a powerful gift you offer!  However, don’t dwell on this, don’t try to own it or prove it, it’s simpler than that.  Let go and simply remember to keep walking one foot in front of the other.  As we wrote yesterday, this is a process of continual renewal.

And why is this relevant to this paleo life?  Sometimes we meet resistance in the most unexpected places.  Sometimes we go into battle with resistance on our own sometimes we battle powerful allies: friends, partners, mothers, lovers and the closer these allies are the more powerful the emotion at play.  In the end however, there is only one answer and it falls to you to decide: do it or don’t.

  1. LOL! Love your disclaimer and I completely agree with you, PaleoWorks!

    There are studies upon studies that put either a negative or a positive result to just about anything you can think of. Vegetarianism, paleo, low fat, high fat, low carb etc. There are even studies that contradict each other regarding how much water we should drink.

    The ticket is determining what you believe and what works for your body. Maybe there are people out there who can abide some of the ancient grains. There are lots that cannot and even more who choose not to for other reasons.

    Throwing out the sensationalist, fear mongering of “coronary heart disease” to try and back up your beliefs/point is unfortunate. Especially since PaleoWorks (or me if I had the time) could find a dozen studies which show that grains are the bigger contributor to heart disease.

  2. I like your take on perseverance. I am intolerant to gluten, diary, eggs and a bunch of other foods. I have avoided sugar for 18 months. I have never been overweight, but even so lost about 10 kg which I attribute to the lack of sugar and refined carbs in my diet. I do believe though that there is so much scientific evidence that points to coronary heart disease because of a high intake of animal fats. This is a fact that people should not overlook. It is not ok to indulge in great quantities of meat every day. Even our ancestors did not feast on meat every day. Everything should be in moderation. Animal protein of some kind 3 to 4 times a week and the rest should be vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds and if your body can handle it, ancient whole grains ( there are individuals that do very well on the ancient whole grains). I think it is very dangerous to suddenly od on animal protein and fats without checks and balances.

    • Everyone is entitled to a view point and although Paleo Works in no way agree with these comments, we do pride ourselves on approving all comments to open up free debate.

I like to ask myself, if that person (whomever is dissing my effort) were given a really great opportunity for something that they really wanted, would that person turn it down just so that they and I could keep living exactly like we are now? Probably not. The fact is, having that little window open up in your life where you are ready and able to make the changes you need to see is a great opportunity and you shouldn’t turn it down for anyone! Turn it down and it might never come around again.

    Plus, if you take advantage of your opportunity, maybe that will be the opening your friend/mother/coworker has been waiting for and then it works out for everyone!

    • Hi Shanny, like the man wrote, the highest treason a crab can commit is to make a leap for the rim of the bucket! But leap we the image of “window of opportunity”, life is a series of these, perhaps? Katie 🙂
