Play Paleo!

Why?  Because quite simply we don’t do enough and in doing that, we forget who we are and why we are here…

Take a moment and look into your life: when was the last time you caught yourself  having fun, stepping inside the moment and really loving it?  Life is like this “smorgasbord” of delights, a garden of play; and things happen good and bad but the world keeps turning and the sun keeps rising, sometimes we just stop paying attention?

And so to conventional exercise for burn fat, you move through the gym: waiting for the guy in front to move on from the “pec” deck so you can throw in a dozen more reps, praying the guy ahead wipes the sweat off the cross track machine which is dripping and trying not to get impatient waiting again for woman to finish up on the cross bar.  And this becomes our play.  Our down time: controlled, defined movement, in a box (dull, boring).  Hey open the door!

Here at Paleo Works that quote has become our defining Self, who knows it may become our slogan.

But play is not defined, its free from form, not structured but unlimited..don’t treat it like exercise because it’s not..and goodness knows we spend too long in this life abiding by the rules of others!  This play time is for you.  Get outside your comfort zone, lighten up! Play Paleo is about Dancing, running, skipping, climbing rocks and trees, chase your loved ones (young and old) watch their faces smiling back at you when you catch them – it’s priceless..

paleo-familySo this is simply a short article to urge you to get outside of yourself, to lift your eyes up a little higher (off the pavement may be) and move. But most of all to have fun doing it.

As a busy working mum of four, I often watched others embark on weight loss progammes only to return to their start weight (and then some) shortly after reaching their target. Why was this happening? We felt that there had to be something wrong with that conventional dietary wisdom after all we can’t all be hopeless? So we studied intensely, sought out advice and read avidly. We questioned robustly and talked with many on various 'dieting' regimes. What we found was radical, our story has to be told, our knowledge has to be shared.   1. That is the whole reason for all the working out my hubby and I do. so we can PLAY harder! 😀 So it all ends up being fun. Today … I got out just before the rain for a walk/run. it was great!

  2. We had a play-filled weekend with a friend visiting us from out of town. We chased our friend’s kids around on the playground on Saturday and then walked to dinner, and on Sunday we went to an indoor trampoline playground. We had so much fun being kids all weekend and happily incorporate playful activities into our workouts!

  3. I like your quote about the misled health advice that causes miserable drudgery……
    Just feeling it is not that easy to have fun and workout at the same time. Hiking has been a luxury for me, with one little baby. I know there are other ways to exercise in fun. For example, in China, you can see many people dance or play Tai Chi in the public area in the morning. Not sure why that can’t be a phenomena here in US. It can make workout much fun then.

    • Hi DJ – that would be a truly beautiful sight ! We advocate natural movement because it is instinctive and practical to the mind. What is natural is not necessarily efficient: efficient skills are acquired through training the body and by increasing situational and environmental demands. And therein you have a workout! Strap your baby on your back and move: balancing, skipping, running, walking, hanging from a tree branch, throwing, catching, swimming , lifting: all these natural skills feel good, feel fun.   4. I love going on a great hike! Such an awesome work out, but even better, it’s beautiful and peaceful out there. It’s relaxing for me.

      This is our life, too – we have been searching long and hard, far and wide and can’t help but know that paleo is bringing us home 🙂
